IRCA

The Wildcat Cheerleaders are a member of the Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association.  The IRCA is made up of Cheerleading and Pom Associations throughout the state of Illinois.  The IRCA provides training for our coaches, rules and regulations and competitions that the cheerleaders can participate in.  It provides resources for its members to enhance the fundamentals of cheer and dance in a fun, safe and educational format.  For more information on the IRCA, please visit their website at www.recreationcheer.com

Wildcat Cheer Squads

It is our intention for the 2011 season to set up our Cheer Squads accordingly:

·         Kitty Kats:  K-1st Grade (1st year cheerleaders)—this is an instructional squad.  They will practice two times a week.  Practices will be reduced to once a week after the games begin.  The coaches will inform their parents of when that change will start.  The girls will cheer at home on Saturdays for the bantam team.  They will not be competing this year.  The girls will still learn a short halftime cheer and a dance appropriate for their age.

·         Junior Purple:  1st and 2nd Grade-- the Junior Silver Squad will practice at least 2 times a week throughout the season.  The Silver Squad will cheer on Saturday for a TBA Lightweight football team.  They will not travel, unless both LW teams are away.

·         Junior Silver:  2nd -3rd Grade—the Junior Purple squad will practice at least two times a week throughout the season.  The Jr. Purple squad will cheer on Saturdays for a Middleweight football team.

·         Junior White:  4th Grade—The Junior White squad will practice at least two times a week throughout the season.  The Jr. White squad will cheer on Saturdays for a TBA Middleweight team.

·         Junior Black5th Grade—The Jr. Black squad will practice at least two times a week throughout the season.  The Jr. Black squad will cheer on Sundays for the Lightweight Sunday football team.

·         Junior Varsity:  6th – 7th Grade—Our Jr. Varsity squad will be practicing 2-3 times a week throughout the season.  The JV squad will cheer on Sundays for our Middleweight Sunday football team.

·         Varsity:  6th, 7th and 8th Grade—Our Varsity squad will practice 2-3 times a week throughout the season.  The Varsity squad will cheer on Sundays for our Heavyweight Football Team.

This is our intention.  We are adding teams to our organization so we can have more cheerleaders cheering for games and to lower the number of cheerleaders per squad.  We would like to cap each team at no more than 24 girls per team.

With the addition of more teams and with the enrollment of our program growing, we need parents to volunteer to be cheer coaches.  We have CPR training, coach’s clinics and High School helpers that will assist you.  Please contact, Julie Gara at tripma@att.net if you are interested in helping coach.

Cheerleader Responsibility:

It is the responsibility of the cheerleader to provide shoes for the games and cheer shoes for competition.  The cheerleaders need to have any kind of clean, plain tread, white gym shoes for our games (white cheer shoes are available at Payless—style number and name TBA).  The competition shoes will be available in late August.  A shoe rep from Rogan Shoes will be at practice sizing and selling our competition shoes.  We will try to keep the cost of the competition shoes reasonable.  Your cheer coach will inform you of when the shoe sizing practice will be.

Cheer Camp:

The Wildcat Cheer Camp will be July 5th and 6th (rain date: 7/7)  The camp will be held at Hampshire Middle school on the football field from 6-8 pm.  The price of the camp is included in your registration fee.  Every cheerleader will receive a camp T-shirt.  The girls will learn our wildcat cheers, jumps, motions, practice tumbling and stunting.  This is a great introduction to cheer for our younger cheerleaders and refresher for our older cheerleaders.

Practices:  (Start on Tuesday, July 19th)

Wildcat Cheerleading will hold practice up to 2 times per week at the beginning of the season, and up to 3 nights once school begins to prepare for our Cheer Competitions.  The Wildcat Cheer Coaches will determine which nights/or Saturday practices will be held depending on our indoor school availability.  Every effort will be made to communicate fully with the parents the thoughts and decisions on practices.

Practices will be an hour for the Kitty Kats and 1 ½ - 2 hours for all other squads.  All outside practices will be held at Hampshire Middle School on the football field.  We will be taking practices indoors in mid-September.  Indoor practices will be at Hampshire Elementary or Hampshire Middle School.  You will be notified 1 week prior to practices so you know where to go.  The website will be updated also.

Competition Dates:  For all squads (except the Kitty Kats)

We will be competing in IRCA sponsored cheer competitions.  The 2011 competition have not been picked yet by our coaching staff.  When we know the dates, we will update the website.  Stay tuned!!!
